Meet the Tecno Spark 30 Pro – A Transformers-Inspired Budget Phone

If you’re looking for a smartphone that breaks the monotony of generic designs, the Tecno Spark 30 Pro might just be your answer. Launched in January 2025, this device stands out not only for its impressive specs but also for its exclusive collaboration with Transformers. This limited-edition model is a rare gem in the budget smartphone category, offering a unique blend of style and functionality.

Beyond its eye-catching design, the Tecno Spark 30 Pro packs a punch with features like the Helio G100 chipset, a stunning 108 MP main camera, and a 120 Hz AMOLED display. Intrigued? Let’s dive deeper into what this phone has to offer.

Unboxing the Tecno Spark 30 Pro

The unboxing experience of the Tecno Spark 30 Pro is nothing short of exciting, especially for Transformers enthusiasts. The Limited Edition version I reviewed comes in a striking box adorned with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee imagery, complete with the iconic Autobot logo.

The packaging itself is a work of art, featuring a futuristic opening mechanism that sets the tone for what’s inside. Upon lifting the cover, you’re greeted with a vibrant mix of blue, red, and silver – colors inspired by Optimus Prime. The attention to detail is evident, with subtle Autobot-themed designs that add a touch of exclusivity.

Inside the box, you’ll find everything you need:

  • The Tecno Spark 30 Pro unit
  • A protective case with blue accents and Optimus Prime branding
  • A 33W charger
  • A USB Type-A to Type-C cable
  • SIM ejector tool
  • User manual and warranty card

As a bonus, Tecno includes a Limited Edition TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds set, which is a rare find and a delightful addition for fans of the collaboration.

A Design Inspired by Transformers – Bold and Functional

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro’s design is a head-turner, especially in its Limited Edition variant. The back panel features a mechanical-style pattern with a glossy finish, blending red, blue, and silver hues reminiscent of Optimus Prime. While the design is bold and futuristic, it may not appeal to everyone, particularly those who prefer a more minimalist look.

For those seeking simplicity, the phone is also available in two other colors: Obsidian Edge (black) and Arctic Glow (white). These variants feature a subtle granite texture near the camera module, offering a more understated aesthetic.

The circular camera module on the back houses a 108 MP main camera, an AI camera, and a quad-LED flash. While the design is sleek, it’s worth noting that only the main camera is functional – the other circles are purely decorative.

The phone’s IP54 rating ensures resistance to dust and water splashes, making it durable enough for everyday use. However, it’s not fully waterproof, so caution is advised around water.

AMOLED Display with 120Hz Refresh Rate

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro features a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2436 pixels. The screen is bright, vibrant, and perfect for media consumption, offering deep blacks and rich colors typical of AMOLED panels.

One of the standout features is the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which ensures smooth scrolling and gaming. The refresh rate adjusts dynamically based on usage, dropping to 60Hz during video playback or when using the Always-on Display (AoD) to conserve battery life.

While the display is impressive, it lacks advanced screen protection like Gorilla Glass, so a protective case is highly recommended.

Performance: Helio G100 Chipset

Powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset, the Tecno Spark 30 Pro delivers solid performance for its price range. Built on a 6nm process, the chipset features an octa-core CPU (2x Cortex-A76 and 6x Cortex-A55) and a Mali-G57 MP2 GPU.

The phone comes with 8GB of RAM (expandable virtually) and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 1TB via a dedicated microSD slot.

In benchmark tests, the phone scored 439,660 on AnTuTu v10 and 734 (single-core) / 1992 (multi-core) on GeekBench 6. While it’s not a powerhouse, it handles everyday tasks and moderate gaming with ease.

Gaming and Multitasking Performance

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro performs well in gaming, handling titles like PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends, and even Genshin Impact at lower settings. While Genshin Impact required the lowest graphics settings to run smoothly, PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends delivered a seamless experience at higher settings.

Multitasking is also a breeze, with the phone effortlessly switching between apps like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Spotify without noticeable lag.

Camera

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro’s 108 MP main camera is its standout feature, delivering sharp and detailed photos in well-lit conditions. The camera performs well in portrait mode, offering precise subject separation and a smooth bokeh effect.

However, the absence of an ultrawide lens is a drawback, and low-light photography shows some noise. The camera supports 2K video recording at 30 FPS, though the lack of stabilization results in shaky footage.

The 13 MP front camera is decent for selfies and video calls, though it’s a downgrade from the 32 MP front camera on its predecessor, the Tecno Spark 20 Pro.

Software: Android 14 with HiOS 14

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro runs on Android 14 with the HiOS 14 interface. While the software is smooth and responsive, there’s no guarantee of future updates, which could impact long-term performance.

The phone comes with some pre-installed apps and ads, but these can be uninstalled or disabled for a cleaner experience.

Battery Life and Charging

The 5000 mAh battery ensures all-day usage, with the phone lasting up to 10 hours of continuous video playback. The 33W fast charging can fully charge the device in about 69 minutes, and the Bypass Charging feature is a bonus for gamers, allowing direct power to the CPU during extended gaming sessions.

Connectivity and Audio

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro offers comprehensive connectivity options, including WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and an infrared blaster. The stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos deliver immersive audio, making it a great choice for media consumption.

Final Verdict

The Tecno Spark 30 Pro is a standout budget smartphone, especially in its Limited Edition Transformers variant. With its bold design, solid performance, and impressive camera, it offers great value for its price. However, the lack of 5G support, ultrawide camera, and guaranteed software updates are notable drawbacks.

Pros:

  • Unique Transformers-inspired design
  • Bright and smooth 120Hz AMOLED display
  • Solid performance with Helio G100 chipset
  • Impressive 108 MP main camera
  • Long-lasting battery with 33W fast charging
  • Bypass Charging for extended gaming sessions

Cons:

  • Bold design may not appeal to everyone
  • No ultrawide camera or advanced video stabilization
  • Limited to 4G connectivity
  • No guaranteed software updates

If you’re a Transformers fan or simply want a budget phone with a unique flair, the Tecno Spark 30 Pro is worth considering. What do you think of this device? Would you give it a try?
